Toyota Camry - Overhead Console
Donnelly Corporation was contracted by Toyota to design and deliver the next generation overhead console for the 2nd generation Camry. Donnelly’s industrial design studio was responsible for the concept, initial design, feasibility study models, clay models, and CNC 1st surface prove out models. Design innovations built into this console were the first single piece detent door design and in-molded Velcro for mounting a manual garage door opener in the storage compartment. Both became cost savings for Toyota. The design was so well received that it became a corporate offering that was used in Lexus vehicles and in a variant design for the Sienna.
